The festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Nagas are worshiped mainly on this day. In some states, Nag Panchami is also celebrated on the day of Chaitra and Bhadrapada Shukla Panchami. This time according to the English month, Nagpanchami will be celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha on Friday, 13th August 2021. According to the belief, on this day 12 forms of snakes are worshipped and milk is offered. Nag Panchami is worshiped in North India, whereas in South India, a similar festival is celebrated on the fifth day of Krishna Paksha.
Mythological belief
The legend of Nagpanchami. According to the Bhavishya Purana, the Panchami of the month of Sawan is dedicated to the deity of Nag, this is the reason why its name is Nagpanchamhi. Lord Shri Krishna had saved the lives of people by defeating the Vrindavan serpent. Lord Krishna danced on the hood of a snake, after which he would be called Nathaiya, there is also another legend according to which on this day the creator of the universe, Brahma Ji adorned Sheshnag by his grace. And after assuming the weight of meaning, people started worshiping Nag Devta, since then this tradition is going on.
